One Man's Experience

Cathedral Seminary Residence of the Immaculate Conception

A Comprehensive Residential Program enabling men of college and post-college age to prepare for and discern the call to the priesthood

The basic concern of the program at Cathedral Seminary is spiritual training. At the heart of this training is the daily celebration of the Mass. Nourished by the life of the Lord in the Eucharist, in other daily prayers, and with wise spiritual counsel, each man is better prepared to make mature choices.

Formation Program

Collegians
Intellectual preparedness is a necessary asset for the future priest. One does not have to be brilliant to succeed. As with the apostles, the Lord often calls men with average ability. At the Seminary, students study philosophy, which is necessary to enter the school of theology — the final step for priesthood. They take most of their other courses at local Catholic colleges from which they receive their degrees. Such a program provides the benefit of a diversified campus experience and an in-depth spiritual and philosophical formation. This background prepares them to make informed and free choices.

Pre-theology
Some members of Cathedral Seminary, known as "pre-theologians," have their college degrees but need philosophy courses in order to enter the Theologate. In a program especially designed for them, these men concentrate on the study of philosophy and other riches of Catholic tradition. With this training and strengthened by the spiritual formation that they receive, they are better prepared to make a decision regarding their vocation. When their courses at Cathedral Seminary are completed, these men begin their study of theology, the final step toward priesthood.
