"Praise the Lord with the Harps!" So begins Psalm 150, a well-known Scripture dear to the heart of both Jewish and Christian worship. These verses speak of the powerful way music expresses the deepest joys and sorrows of our human hearts.

Generating a creativity exemplified in a variety of expressive styles, music helps set the tone for our spirits to be receptive to God in worship. Whether a Gregorian chant, slave spiritual, jazzy improvisation, familiar hymn, or a Mass reverberating with Latin rhythms, the spirit of music speaks to our spirits. Music helps us connect with God.

In understanding the spiritual depths of music, the liturgical commission maintains diocesan guidelines on music and worship that maintain the orthodoxy of our worship in the Diocese. The commission also keeps a list of area musicians who are available to serve as worship leaders. If you have any questions or ideas about how music ties in with our local worship, please be in touch.
