Our primary task
in the Pontifical Mission Societies in the U.S. office is to articulate the
dramatic urgency of the Great Commission as well as the creative responsibility
each of us as Christians has to do our part to be informed of the missionary
efforts of our Church and give of our time, talents, and financial resources to
perpetuate the success of Catholic missions.
By bringing missionaries from around the
world to speak to our parishioners and diocesan administration, we are able to
hear first-hand of the work being done for Christ among the suffering in
war-torn countries as well as in places that do not have the benefit of a
dynamic local Christian presence. By promoting mission awareness through the
ongoing efforts of the Propagation of the Faith, the Society of St. Peter the
Apostle, Holy Childhood Association (HCA), and the Missionary Union, we
join our efforts with those missionaries worldwide in bringing hope and healing
in Christ's name to all people.
Although rooted in Brooklyn and Queens, our
work brings the heart of Catholic global missions into the daily life of our
Diocese. Taking the world into our local hearts, our prayers and resources fuel
the work of God's spirit both among our own and throughout the world.
