Pastoral Institute Procedures
The
prospective pastoral associate should complete an Information Form that will be
supplied by the Pastoral Institute and returned to the Institute when completed.
The following items are to be included with the Information Form:

Most recent official academic
transcripts
-
For members of a religious communities, a
letter of approval from the appropriate superior (form will
be provided)

For lay candidates, a letter of recommendation from a member of the clergy attesting to their good
standing in the Church (form will be provided)
A list of those individuals who have filed an Information Form and are available to
be hired as pastoral associates will be made available to all interested pastors on a periodic basis by
the Pastoral Institute.
Interview(s) are to be
conducted by the pastor and prospective candidate and will address
the candidate's education, formation, pastoral experience, and
ability to
fulfill the requirements of the position as envisioned by the pastor.
The decision to hire someone as a pastoral associate is reserved to each pastor of the diocese (who serves
as the official employer of the newly hired pastoral associate on behalf of the parish).
The following activities are taken care of at
the local level:

Criminal Background Check (done through
the Office of Human Resources)

Virtus Training
Pastoral Associates who are hired by more than one parish or for a cluster should consult the Pastoral
Institute for procedures to be followed.
