Life takes many wondrous forms. To live a
seasoned life is to welcome both sun and shadow, love and loss, and to seek
meaning in everything. Senior adults are those among us who, because of their
many years of living, better understand and appreciate life in its many wondrous
forms.
A person entering into this stage of life is
often faced with a variety of changes: retirement, possible change of living
situation, renegotiating financial plans, and an abundance of leisure time,
among others. After many years of steady work, seniors often have many free
hours to fill with family, volunteer work, travel, and personal
reflection.
Our office provides programming and services that can help make
the senior years seasoned with hope, tutored by wisdom, and filled with
joy.
Annual Diocesan Fiftieth Wedding
Anniversary Celebrations
Each year couples who are celebrating their fiftieth
wedding anniversary are invited to a Mass presided over by a bishop, usually on
a Fall afternoon. Couples may invite their families to be a part of
the celebration, which includes renewal of wedding vows. A reception with
light refreshments follows. For the date and location go to the event page.
Annual Conference on
Aging Every Spring the Diocesan Commission on Aging presents a
conference for seniors and professionals who work with the aging population.
This conference takes place at the Immaculate Conception Center, Douglaston.
One Hundredth Birthday
Scroll People are living longer today. It is not unusual for
someone you know to be celebrating their one hundredth birthday. In order to
honor these people, Bishop Valero, the chairperson of the Diocesan Commission on
the Elderly, has prepared a special scroll and blessing which will be
personalized for them.
