New York State Catholic Conference

Join the Catholic Advocacy Network

The Diocese of Brooklyn, like the other six dioceses and one Archdiocese in the State of New York, plays an active role in shaping public policy. Its Catholic Charities and Family Life offices, in particular, advocate for laws and regulations that will foster the common good, advance justice and promote respect for human life. Each year the Dioceses bring more than 1000 Catholics together in Albany to lobby their legislators in the state's Capitol.

Now, you too, can join with thousands of others from the Diocese of Brooklyn and with Catholics throughout New York State who are working for justice in our society to promote the values important to our faith. Together, we can speak out in support of the poor and vulnerable, the sick and the elderly, the unborn, families and children. Through the Catholic Advocacy Network of New York State, you can stay informed about key legislative issues and strengthen the Catholic voice.

Activities

Catholic Lobby Day
Each year during the month of March, Catholic Lobby Day takes place in Albany. Catholics across the State will convene to lobby their legislators on issues pertaining to the Bishop's Public Policy Agenda (see above) These issues the have been presented to us by all the Bishops of New York State as having critical importance.

Legislative Training:
Training consists of educating the prospective lobbyist in the bills currently before the New York State Legislature, that affect any issues on the current Bishop's Public Policy Agenda (see below) Lobbyists will be working within their parishes, meeting and greeting their legislators, and presenting the Church's view of impending legislation.

Resources available from the New York State Catholic Conference include Action Alerts, Capital Compass Newsletter and Legislative Updates.

The NYSCC was established by the Catholic Bishops of New York State to translate Catholic teachings into action in the public policy arena.
