Ecumenical Dialogue:
this is a rich term. What does
it mean for Roman Catholics living in the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens?
The term "ecumenical" can be understood in its broadest terms to mean "general"
or "universal." Used in a religious context, it refers to the relationship
among the majority of Christian Churches.
Dialogue is a word which refers to a conversation
between two or more persons or parties. True dialogue happens when people
seek mutual understanding through speaking and listening to each other.
Ecumenical dialogue is
a
conversation in which members of various Christian communities seek mutual understanding
and respect. Ecumenical dialogue has Christian Unity as a primary goal. Through sharing
their respective faith traditions, theological insights and concerns, each party member
is enriched. Ecumenical dialogue happens formally and informally. Dialogue happens
at many levels in the church. It happens at the Vatican, in
our parish and even over a simple cup of coffee.
