FAITH FORMATION CURRICULUM

Parish catechists, youth ministers or R.C.I.A. catechists and Catholic school t eachers, lay or  religious, full-time or part-time, are called to participate in the ministry of Catholic education and are, therefore, included in the catechist certification process.

Requirements apply as well to those Catholic school teachers who, while not members of the Catholic community, participate with us in providing quality education in an environment marked by our beliefs and our values.

Contact your parish DRE to find out what courses are being offered.  Registration forms will be available through your DRE.

Confirmation of Attendance

After completion of the course a Confirmation of Attendance (salmon)  will be issued to all participants that have completed the course who are parish catechists, youth ministers or R.C.I.A. catechists and Catholic school teachers.  It is their responsibility to submit a copy of the Certificate of Attendance to his/her DRE.

Professional Development Certificate

Any participant taking the course who is employed in
a Catholic school will also receive a Professional Development  Certificate through the Office of Religious Education via e-mail to his or her principal.  This certificate will be submitted as soon as we receive the   registration form from the DRE or course facilitator. A copy of the Professional  Development Certificate may be obtained through his/her principal.
(Note: 10 hours = 1 credit).

Request for Certification

In May/June of each year the office hosts Catechist Award Ceremonies. During that time participants who have completed their 40 hrs. of the Basic Faith Formation Curriculum, 20 hrs. Intermediate or 20 hrs. of Advanced Certification will be invited to attend the Catechist Award Ceremony where they will receive their Certificate of Certification.  These applications will be mailed to your DRE when the Catechist Award Ceremony information is sent out.
