FAITH FORMATION
CURRICULUM
Parish catechists, youth
ministers or R.C.I.A. catechists and Catholic
school t
eachers,
lay or religious, full-time or part-time, are called to participate in the
ministry of Catholic education and are, therefore, included in the catechist certification
process.
Requirements apply as well to those Catholic school teachers
who, while not members of the Catholic community, participate with us in
providing quality education in an environment marked by our beliefs and our
values.
Contact your
parish DRE to find out what courses are being offered. Registration forms
will be available through your DRE.
Confirmation of Attendance
After
completion of the
course a Confirmation of Attendance (salmon) will be issued to all participants that have completed the
course who are parish catechists, youth
ministers or R.C.I.A. catechists and Catholic
school teachers. It is their responsibility to submit a copy of the
Certificate of Attendance to his/her
DRE.
Professional
Development Certificate
Any participant taking
the course who is employed in
a Catholic school will also receive a Professional
Development
Certificate through the
Office of Religious Education via e-mail to his
or her principal.
This certificate will be submitted as soon as we receive
the
registration form from the DRE or course
facilitator. A copy of the
Professional
Development Certificate may be obtained through
his/her
principal.
(Note: 10 hours =
1
credit).
Request
for Certification
In
May/June of each year the office hosts Catechist Award
Ceremonies. During that time participants who have completed their 40
hrs. of the Basic Faith Formation Curriculum, 20 hrs.
Intermediate or 20 hrs. of Advanced Certification will be
invited to attend the Catechist Award Ceremony where they will receive their
Certificate of Certification. These applications will be mailed to your DRE when
the Catechist Award Ceremony information is sent out.
