The Public Information Office is the conduit by
which Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio and other officials of the Diocese of Brooklyn
convey information, statements, pastoral letters, and related
material to the public through the print and electronic
media. It also provides advice and counsel to parishes and
schools on news-related issues that may pertain to them.
On
the diocesan level, the office provides communications support
to the Annual Catholic Appeal, the Religious Retirement
Fund, and the Catholic Communication Campaign collection;
serves on the boards of The Tablet, the diocesan newspaper,
and the Office of Pastoral Communications, which operates
the cable television Prayer Channel; assists in maintaining
the diocesan Web site; and sponsors the annual World Communications
Day luncheon.
Established in 1969, the office was one of the first of
its kind among U.S. Dioceses. It is a member of the Tri-State
Catholic Committee on Radio and Television (TRISCCORT) and
Unda-USA, the association of broadcasters.
