As shepherd of his Diocese,
Bishop Thomas V. Daily wrote pastoral letters to offer direction about pressing
issues in the Church and society. This gave the Bishop the opportunity to address
complex issues at length and to reach out not only to Catholics but also to
all people of good will. The subjects of Bishop Daily's letters
ranged from evangelization and vocations to the strong rejection of attacks on
the dignity of human life, including abortion, racism, and capital punishment.
Bishop Daily's first pastoral letter was written on
