BISHOP NAMED TO GLOBAL
MIGRATION COMMISSION (Feb. 24, 2004) Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio has been named a Commisssioner
on the newly established Global Commission on International Migration, and he attended
its inaugural meeting Feb. 26-27 in Stockholm.
The Bishop, a
prominent spokeman on migration issues, is the American representative on the
17-member body, which began its activities Jan. 1. He was recommended for
membership by the U.S. State Department.
Among the commission's mandates
is to place international migration on the global agenda. It intends to do
so by analyzing gaps in current approaches to migration and will recommend to
the United Nations Secretary General means for strengthening national, regional
and global governance of international migration.
The commisssion intends to
present a report to the U.N. Secretary General in mid-2005.
TO CELEBRATE SERVICE IN CONSECRATED
LIFE (Feb. 3, 2004) Members of religious
institutes in the Diocese of Brooklyn will celebrate the World Day for
Consecrated Life at a prayer service in St. James Cathedral Basilica, Brooklyn,
Sunday, Feb. 8, at 4 p.m.

BISHOP APPOINTS DIRECTOR OF HUMAN
RESOURCES OFFICE (Feb. 3, 2004) Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio has announced the
appointment of Annmarie Fahey as director of the Office of Human Resources of
the Diocese of Brooklyn, effective
Feb. 2.

ASSISTS PERSONS WHO CLAIM ABUSE (Feb. 2, 2004) Sister Ellen Patricia
Finn, O.P., is coordinating a process established by the Diocese of Brooklyn for
providing pastoral care to persons who claim that a priest or deacon sexually
abused them as a minor. She may be contacted at (718) 722-6050.
The Dominican Sister, who
is an associate executive director of Catholic Charities, has served as the diocesan assistance coordinator
since last March.
The pastoral care program responds to the call for
such an outreach by the U.S. bishops in their "Charter for the Protection of Children
and Young people."
FROM TV TO 'PRINCIPAL FOR A DAY' AT LOCAL
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS (Feb. 2, 2004) Three local television personalities will
serve as "Principal for a Day" at Catholic schools in the Diocese of Brooklyn on
Friday, Feb. 6.
