Associate Director-Annual Appeal

Responsibilities will include developing and/or implementing successful strategies for the solicitation of existing and potential donors to the Annual Catholic Appeal; donor stewardship as well as maintaining and potentially upgrading existing donor relationships; preparing presentations and appropriate materials; and maintaining Diocesan website information regarding the Annual Catholic Appeal. The Associate Director will also interact with Diocesan agencies and departments to secure resources and assistance to ensure the success of the Annual Catholic Appeal.

Requirements - Bachelor's Degree in public relations, communications or related field and equivalent experience, in private sector, social service or government development efforts, minimum five years of development experience with a proven track record and excellent written, verbal, and platform communication skills. Required computer skills include Microsoft Office, Raisers Edge and/or comparable software programs, as well as experience with Internet research. Some travel is required as well as the ability to work beyond regular business hours, including weekends, as necessary.

Building & Field Inspector - Coordinate and monitor construction and renovation projects in connection with church or church related facilities in the Diocese of Brooklyn. Perform inspections of construction work pursuant to applications filed with the Department of Buildings and the Diocese of Brooklyn. Ensure work is being done safely and in conformance with approved applications, plans, and specifications and in accordance with requisite building codes, etc.. Serve as Diocesan resource for information in regard to the policies, procedures and issues confronted by Pastors, Principals, etc. in connection with maintenance of properties. Conduct site visits to evaluate requested maintenance repairs. Complete a report following each site visit, with comments for work recommendations.  Maintain an accurate database of information for each site. Monitor requests for payments and visit location to verify validity. Maintain a list of approved vendors that has been reviewed by the Diocesan Bishop or his delegated representative for contracts within the Diocese in connection with construction, facility care, maintenance or services. Work collaboratively with Director in the selection process of three (3) contractors from approved vendor list who are best qualified to complete the work needed. Provide Pastors, etc. with vendor information and assist in the coordination of the bidding process. Coordinate on site progress meetings for projects in excess of $100,000. Perform all other work as required or requested by the Bishop and Vicar General for Temporalities.

Requirements - Knowledge of federal and local codes and ordinances pertinent to facilities planning, design, construction and maintenance. College degree and/or relevant professional experience required. Ability to plan, organize and execute an efficient plan. Ability to work independently and strong tendency towards taking initiative.  Excellent organizational and communication skills.  Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Database.  Valid NY State Driver’s License and access to a car to travel to various Diocesan locations within the Diocese of Brooklyn.

Office Assistant II - Maintain all records in regard to office budget. Submit all expense requests and track any requests under the budget for accuracy and promptness. Open mail, prepare copies, maintain office’s filing system, route phone calls and performing all general office support functions. Type and prepare letters memos, reports and related materials as requested. Maintain accurate databases of information. Coordinate meetings and make all arrangements in regard to facilities. Assist in the coordination and provide support for Special Events and perform other miscellaneous duties for the benefit of the smooth operation of the department. Deals with a diverse group of important external callers and visitors as well as internal contacts at various levels of the organization. Maintain inventory of office supplies and obtaining supplies. Recommend changes in office practices or procedures. Respond to general inquiries. Perform all other tasks as assigned by the Director/Agency Head.

Requirements-Must have experience in a facilities and/or construction management office environment. Working knowledge of the Diocese of Brooklyn and the tenets of the Catholic faith. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs. Experience with Internet and Internet research preferred. Ability to work alone with a strong tendency towards taking initiative. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Experience in developing a filing system preferred

Maintenance Worker - Assist in maintaining entire facility and all connected operations. Fulfill maintenance needs of all residents/facility users. Assist in general maintenance of plant, including but not limited to, painting, sweeping, plowing, snow blowing, leaf blowing, etc. Notify appropriate personnel of structural items or contents needing maintenance or repairs, such as sinks, drains, etc.. Perform minor electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs.

Attend to department’s needs, such as resolving minor heating problems. Assist in the opening of facility in AM. Assist in the acceptance of deliveries inside and outside the building as necessary and direct vendors to appropriate floor. Replace light bulbs and restroom supplies. Maintain building security by checking for unlocked doors. Fill audio/visual needs and assemble equipment including desks, chairs, cabinet etc. Pick up mail at Post Office and run occasional errands. Open set up, close and clean for special events. Provide assistance to Diocesan and affiliated organizations using the facility

Respond to inquiries and provide information within scope of authority and knowledge.

Perform other work as required.

Requirements - Must have a valid New York State Driver’s License and possess the ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor including frequent bending, walking and heavy lifting. Knowledge of boiler maintenance and operation. Knowledge of HVAC system maintenance and operation.  Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and electrical maintenance and repair. Standpipe certification a plus.  Basic computer skills and previous building maintenance experience preferred.  Access to a vehicle a plus.

Associate Superintendent-Instruction and Strategic Planning

The Associate Superintendent for Instruction & Strategic Planning is responsible for the development of principles and guidelines to promote the success of parish, school, and cluster strategic planning within the Diocese of Brooklyn. An understanding of the Diocesan Strategic Plan, the Desired Characteristics of a Viable Catholic School, the Criteria for Excellent Catholic Schools, and/or other approved standards of excellence is an essential part of this position.  This individual will also provide consultative services to assist in the development and implementation of effective strategic planning on the parish, school, and cluster levels.  He/she will work closely with the pastors, principals, and Advisory Board Members of the Queens South Vicariate.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Interact closely with the Vicar for Evangelization and Pastoral Life, Superintendent of Schools, and other appropriate Diocesan Agency Personnel to promote the vision for Catholic education within the Diocese.
  •  Work with pastors, principals, and Advisory Board members in the development and implementation of a strategic plan.
  •  Provide resources and support to parishes, schools and/or clusters in preparation of their strategic plans.
  • Assure that school programs are designed to meet the diocesan Desired Characteristics of a Viable School and the Strategic Plan for Catholic Elementary Schools.
  • Visit schools within the Vicariate to provide guidance to the administrator in all educational areas.
  • Participate on various diocesan committees.
  • Prepare regular reports to the Superintendent of Schools as well as special reports at the request of the Bishop and the Vicar for Evangelization and Pastoral Life.
  • Analyze data to assist parishes, schools, and clusters in the strategic planning process.
  • Respond to pastor and principal concerns, intervene and facilitate in problematic situations, and assist in emergency situations.
  • Interact with the Territorial Vicars and Vicariate Representatives to foster positive parish/school relationships, pastor/principal relationships, and advance cluster efforts for strategic planning.
  • Perform all other tasks that are required or requested by the Vicar for Evangelization and Pastoral Life, the Superintendent of Schools, and the Bishop and/or his designee(s).

Requirements

  • Advanced degree andNew York State certification as a school administrator.
  • Minimum of five years experience in Catholic school administration.
  • In-depth familiarity and knowledge of the Roman Catholic Church--its tenets, structure, beliefs and attitudes, and an understanding of the parish environment. 
  • Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of multi-cultural and diverse communities.
  • Ability and experience working collaboratively with others as well as training and experience in group process dynamics and facilitation.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and platform communication skills.
  • Computer proficient and working knowledge of programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher and Outlook as well as familiarity and experience with Internet research.

Staff Accountant - This individual will perform various accounting, reporting and cash management functions for a number of entities of the Diocese of Brooklyn. 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Update and Maintain various Excel worksheets and Access databases.
  • Perform various Accounts Receivable functions including General Ledger/Sub-Ledger reconciliation and balance inquires.
  • Become familiar with and utilize Masterpiece Accounting Software for optimum accounting functions.
  • Produce and analyze financial statements for entities on a monthly basis.
  • Perform cash management functions.
  • Respond to information requests from both inside and outside.
  • Perform special projects utilizing accounting ability as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and minimum of 2-4 years related work experience.
  • Computer proficiency with particular emphasis on Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills as well as ability to multi-task and prioritize accordingly.
  • Knowledge of the tenets of the Catholic faith.

Coordinator of Respect Life Education- Responsible for spearheading diocesan efforts to educate parish leaders and all the faithful regarding the respect and dignity due to all human life, from conception to elder years.  The Coordinator works collaboratively with a number of diocesan offices and other organizations in promoting life issues.  He/she will oversee communications, events, planning, and educational programs and will also assist in providing support to women in crisis pregnancy centers.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Director of Faith Formation, coordinates all diocesan efforts to educate both parish leaders and the faithful in all matters pertaining to the respect and dignity due to all human life, from conception to elder years.
  • Sets up networks of communication and events for collaboration among Catholics of various languages and cultures for the purposes of educating the faithful in all issues related to human life.
  • Provides educational programs to the parishes and clusters concerning Pro Life issues.
  • Works collaboratively with the Office of Legislative Affairs in all matters concerning respect life.
  • Works closely with the Office of Schools, Safe Environment, Pastoral Communications, and the other coordinators of the Office of Faith Formation to provide Chastity Education workshops throughout the Diocese.
  • Supervises the efforts of the Diocesan Coordinator of Natural Family Planning, meeting to formulate long-range plans and more immediate steps towards expanding this ministry.
  • Plans and executes the annual Diocesan Conference on the Aging under the direction of the Former Regional Bishop of Queens North.
  • Serves on the New York State Catholic Conference’s Human Life Coordinators Committee and Public Policy Committee.
  • Works collaboratively with the Joint Parishes Respect Life Committee to publish bi-monthly newsletter.
  • Distributes monthly NYSCC Respect Newsletter to all parishes and constituencies.
  • Works jointly with the Sisters of Life to provide support for women in crisis pregnancy centers.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate should possess an advanced Roman Catholic theological competency, such as the MA, in Theology, Religious Studies or related field, should be a practicing Roman Catholic in union with the doctrine, teachings and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church, and must be sensitive to the unique ethnic, cultural and racial diversity of the Diocese of Brooklyn.
  • Significant experience promoting respect life issues and education programs.
  • Awareness of current respect life issues and respect life resources.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, writing, public speaking, computer and organizational skills.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
