PARISHIONERS DONATE $300,000

FOR FLOOD, HURRICANE VICTIMS

Special collections requested by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio and taken in parishes of the Diocese of Brooklyn raised more than $300,000 to assist victims of violent weather conditions that caused havoc in the South and the Caribbean in May and September, according to a report issued by the Diocese Nov. 8.

Through Oct. 31, $190,094.40 in parishioner contributions, earmarked for support efforts conducted by Catholic Relief Services, the U.S. bishops’ overseas aid agency, following massive flooding in Haiti and the Dominican Republic in May, was reported to the Diocese by parishes.

Parishioners also gave $134,614.42 in a collection to help people affected by deadly hurricanes that ripped through the South and the Caribbean in September, the diocesan report said. Catholic Charities USA and Catholic Relief Services received equal shares of the funds received.
