WESTERN BISHOP TO DISCUSS STEWARDSHIP IN DIOCESE
Bishop Robert J. Carlson of Sioux Falls, S.D., will deliver the keynote address at the Diocese of Brooklyn’s annual Stewardship Day to be held at the Immaculate Conception Center, Douglaston, Saturday, Nov. 20.
The bishop will relate how he has introduced the concept and value of stewardship into his diocese, influenced by the U.S. bishops’ 1989 pastoral letter, “Stewardship: a Disciple’s Response.”
Reflections in English and Spanish on the late Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy of Seattle, who helped write the bishops’ pastoral and was known as a “stewardship pioneer,” will be part of the stewardship day program.
Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio will celebrate Mass at 3 p.m. concluding the day-long program, which will begin at 9 a.m.
Nine panels will be offered to attendees, who will represent parishes that sponsor or are planning to sponsor stewardship initiatives for parishioners. Last year, 36 parishes were represented.
Local panelists will include Father Jamie J. Gigantiello, pastor of Mary Queen of Heaven parish, Mill Basin; Daughters of Charity Sister Margaret Marie Clifford, who will lead a team from St. John the Baptist parish, Bedford-Stuyvesant; Incarnate Word Father Marcelo J. Navarro, pastor of St. Gabriel the Archangel parish, New Lots; Deacon Jorge Gonzalez, director of the diocesan Diaconate Program; and Joseph Wood and Marion Boteju of the diocesan Stewardship and Development Office.
Dan Conway and Angel DeLeon of RSI, a Dallas-based consulting firm, and Jose DeJesus of Lynch Development Associates of Huntington, L.I., will also conduct panels.
Further information is available by calling the Stewardship and Development Office at (718) 965-7300, ext. 1602.
