NATIONAL AWARD
FOR BROOKLYN SISTER

                                             

Sister Maryann Seton Lopiccolo, S.C., Episcopal Delegate for Religious of the Diocese of Brooklyn, will be honored by the Religious Formation Conference at its national congress in St. Louis Saturday, Nov. 8.

 

            She will receive the Mary Emil Penet Award for “outstanding leadership and service in the work of formation” of women and men in religious congregations in the United States. It is named for the founder of the Religious Formation Conference, an Immaculate Heart of Mary Sister.

 

            In announcing the 2003 honoree, the Religious Formation Conference’s board of directors cited Sister Maryann’s “stellar” formation work for her community, the Sisters of Charity of Halifax, and on the regional and national levels of the conference.

 

            The board said that its members spoke of her “competence, sensitivity, zeal and great generosity of heart,” noting that she has “given counsel to many communities that has aided them in the development of policy as well as skills in mentoring.”

 

            Sister Maryann has served as Brooklyn’s Delegate for Religious since l998.

 

            The Religious Formation Conference’s membership comprises more than 460 religious institutes, primarily in North America, but also internationally.
