KATRINA CONTRIBUTIONS PASS $1.1 MILLION
More than $1.1 million has been collected in the parishes of the Diocese of Brooklyn to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina, in response to an appeal made by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio.
The total as of Oct. 17 stood at $1,126,818. It has surpassed the $1,123,002 contributed for tsunami relief in south Asia in January by the members of the 216 parishes in Brooklyn and Queens.
Programs administered by Catholic Charities USA and by the individual dioceses affected by Katrina will benefit from the donations.
