RADIO MARIA LAUNCHES

BROADCASTS IN ENGLISH

Radio Maria, an international association of stations committed to promoting the New Evangelization called for by Pope John Paul II, has begun broadcasting three one-hour English-language programs a week on WVOX (1460 AM).

The program, which features prayers and programming by local presenters, airs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings at 7, according to Dr. Florinda M. Iannace, president of the Friends of Radio Maria, Inc-New York, which is based on Fresh Pond Rd. in Ridgewood. The series offered here was launched Sept. 20.

In a message recorded for the WVOX program, Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio said he has listened to Radio Maria broadcasts in Spanish and Italian, calling the quality of the programming “simply magnificent.”

He said the prayers, instruction and music offered by Radio Maria make the program “a friend to those who tune in.” He encouraged listeners to make the program  “part and parcel of your daily radio listening.”

He said he hoped that by reaching out to society through the media, Radio Maria would advance the New Evangelization.
