BOOK PUBLISHED ON THE EUCHARIST
Two priest-brothers of the Diocese of Brooklyn and their sister, a former managing editor at Simon and Schuster, have collaborated to produce a book that commemorates the Year of the Eucharist proclaimed by Pope John Paul II.
Rosemary Vaccari Mysel, Msgr. Andrew J. Vaccari and Father Peter I. Vaccari compiled 18 readings and meditations on the Eucharist for “The Beauty of the Eucharist: Shaping and Sustaining Our Catholic Identity,” a 206-page soft cover volume published by Pauline Books and Media in Boston.
Beginning with reflections on the Eucharist by St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, the book features writings by familiar names that include Thomas Merton, Sister Thea Bowman, St. Francis Xavier Cabrini, Henri Nouwen, Basil Pennington and Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen.
The collaborators also have included statements on Eucharistic spirituality issued by American bishops for the Eucharistic Congresses held in the U. S. in l895 and 1976 and the pastoral statement of the U.S. hierarchy on the Real Presence issued in 2001.
Selections from the journal “Emmanuel” also are found in the volume because they “reflect developments and shifts in Eucharistic spirituality,” the authors said.
Mrs. Mysel, now a freelance editor, has taught sacramental preparation in parish religious education programs. Msgr. Vaccari is the Chancellor of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Father Vaccari teaches Church History at the Immaculate Conception Seminary, Huntington, L.I.
The cover price of “The Beauty of the Eucharist” is $16.95.
