EGYPTIAN CARDINAL IN PARK SLOPE SEPT. 4
Cardinal Stephanos II Ghattas, C.M., of Alexandria, Egypt, patriarch of the Coptic Catholic Church, will celebrate the Liturgy at Resurrection Coptic Chapel, 328 14th St., Park Slope, Sunday, Sept. 4, at 11 a.m.
Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio will be present for the Liturgy, which will be held during the pastoral visit the Cardinal makes to the chapel every two years.
Established in l985, Resurrection has 120 members in its congregation. It is one of two Coptic congregations in the U.S. The other is in Los Angeles.
Cardinal Ghattas, 85, who was inducted into the College of Cardinals by Pope John Paul II in 2001, blessed the late Holy Father’s coffin with incense during his funeral Mass in St. Peter’s Square in April.
