                                          TO HONOR WNET PRESIDENT

 

            The Diocese of Brooklyn will honor Dr. William F. Baker, president of Thirteen/WNET, at the diocese’s annual World Communications Day luncheon, to be held at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Brooklyn Friday, May 16.

           

            Bishop Thomas V. Daily will make a presentation to Dr. Baker for his contributions to the cultural and artistic life of the city and his support of religious programming.

 

            In the area of religious programming, Dr. Baker was the executive producer of “The Face: Jesus in Art,” a two-hour documentary that traced the different ways in which Jesus has been represented in art throughout history and throughout the world. It aired on national public television stations.

 

            Dr. Baker was also instrumental in the creation and development of “Religion and Ethics Newsweekly,” hosted by Bob Abernathy, a magazine series on public television that focuses on significant events, controversies, people and practices of all religions.

 

            Dr. Baker has been the president and chief executive officer of Thirteen/WNET

since l987.

 

            Previous honorees have included Ralph Penza of WNBC-TV, Charles (Bill) Bell of the New York Daily News, Rich Lamb of CBS-AM, David Gonzalez of the New York Times, Rosanna Scotto of WNYW-TV and Mary Murphy of WPIX-TV.
