DEACON NAMED TO HEAD

DOUGLASTON CENTER

Bishop Thomas V. Daily has announced the appointment of Deacon Stanley J. Galazin as director of the Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston, succeeding Msgr. Michael J. Hardiman. The three-year appointment became effective April 1.

Deacon Galazin, a corporate retailing executive for 25 years, assumed his duties at the center on Monday (April 14). For almost a year, Msgr. Hardiman had continued to direct the center while serving as pastor of St. Sebastian’s Church in Woodside.

The appointment marks Deacon Galazin’s return to a facility that formerly was the home of Cathedral College, from which he graduated in l973.

Ordained to the permanent diaconate in l998, he is the co-coordinator, with his wife Mary, of the in-home Pre-Cana program at American Martyrs parish in Bayside, where he also coordinates the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program. He will continue in parish ministry while directing the Douglaston center.

Deacon Galazin has also served in formation and aspirant interview programs for the diocesan Permanent Diaconate Office.

After graduating from Cathedral College, he earned a master’s degree in English literature from the City University of New York and taught for three years at Holy Child Jesus School in Richmond Hill.

Deacon Galazin began his corporate career at JC Penny Company in l977 and continued in retailing for the last 15 years with Toys R Us.

He said he was “delighted and enthused” about his new work at the Immaculate Conception Center, which Bishop Daily described as “one of our Diocese’s most treasured locations.”
