TEN PRIESTS NAMED

MONSIGNORS BY POPE

 

Bishop Thomas V. Daily has announced that Pope John Paul II has elevated ten priests of the Diocese of Brooklyn to the rank of Chaplain of His Holiness, giving them the title Reverend Monsignor and making them members of the papal household.

 

            The bishop will confer the honors at a Vespers ceremony in St. James Cathedral Basilica in Brooklyn on Thursday, May 22, at 7:30 p.m.

 

            Receiving the honors will be:

 

            Msgr. Frank J. Caggiano, director of the Permanent Diaconate Office; Msgr. Thomas G. Caserta, coordinator of the Office of Ministry and Life of Priests; Msgr. Michael J. Curran, pastor of St. Catharine of Alexandria Church, Borough Park, and former academic dean at the North American College in Rome; Msgr. John E. Delendick, pastor of St. Michael’s Church, Sunset Park, and chaplain for the New York Fire Department.

 

            Also, Msgr. Michael J. Hardiman, pastor of St. Sebastian’s Church, Woodside, and director of the Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston; Msgr. Raymond J. Kelly, pastor of St. Malachy’s Church, East New York; Msgr. Cornelius H. Mahoney, director of the Cluster Planning and Collaboration Office.

 

            Also, Msgr. Guy A. Massie, pastor of St. Andrew the Apostle Church, Bay Ridge, and chairman of the Ecumenical Commission; Msgr. Michael J. Reid, director of the Catholic Cemeteries Office, and Msgr. Andrew J. Vaccari, Chancellor.

 

            In announcing the honors on March 19, Bishop Daily thanked the new monsignors for their “fine priestly example” and their “loyal support” of the faithful of the Diocese.

 

            The title Chaplain of His Holiness is granted for the lifetime of the recipient. Prior to l969 the title was surrendered at the burial of the pope who had conferred it.
