PRESS IS INVITED TO COVER GOOD FRIDAY
PROCESSION IN BENSONHURST
Several thousand Catholics
from nine parishes located in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn will
march in a solemn candlelight procession through local streets on Good
Friday evening, March 25, beginning at 8, commemorating the Passion and
death of Jesus Christ.
Press coverage is welcome. If the weather is inclement, a decision
on whether to proceed will be made at 5 p.m. The number to call is
(718) 236-3312.
Many of the parishioners will carry candles, and each parish will have a
banner. In addition, 14 members of each parish will carry a cross,
representing the 14 Stations of the Cross, which reminds Catholics of
Jesus’ journey from the trial before Pontius Pilate to Calvary, where
Jesus was crucified.
Leading the procession will be a delegation from the Knights of Columbus
bearing a large cross. Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio will be the
presiding prelate.
The procession will begin at Shallow Junior High School, 65th
St. and 16th Ave., and conclude at Our Lady of Guadalupe
Church, 73rd St. and 15th Ave.
The parishes participating will be St. Athanasius, St. Bernadette, St.
Mary Mother of Jesus, St. Finbar’s, St. Frances Cabrini, SS. Simon and
Jude, Our Lady of Guadalupe, St. Dominic’s and St. Rosalia-Regina Pacis.
