Mission Statement
The mission of the Francis X. McDermott Pastoral
Resource Center (FXM Pastoral Resource Center) is to provide
quality services and lifelong learning opportunities through
various types of resources. It provides these services to all
the parishes in the Diocese of Brooklyn as well as the various
ministry offices of the diocese. The primary focus is to support
the pastoral ministry of the diocese by serving the needs of the
pastoral ministers of the diocese including both clergy and
laity.

Background
The Pastoral Resource Center for the Brooklyn Diocese is located
within the Francis X. McDermott Library at the Immaculate
Conception Center (ICC) in Douglaston, NY. It originally opened
as the Cathedral College Library in Brooklyn. In 1967, it moved
to Douglaston as the academic library for the new seminary. In
1989, when the college closed and the seminarians started
attending St. John’s University it became more of a research or
special library. In 2006, when the Office of Faith Formation was
created, the Pastoral Resource Center was also established as
one of the areas of ministry within the newly formed office. As
libraries are constantly evolving to meet new needs, there are
changes underway to renovate the space and make the Pastoral
Resource Center better able to provide support to the priests
and parish staff members as well as the employees of the
Vicariate, who aid them in ministry.
