NAMED TO DIRECT MIGRATION OFFICE
Edward Dominguez, an experienced manager of non-profit agencies serving the poor, has been named to succeed Msgr. Ronald T. Marino as director of the Catholic Migration Office of the Diocese of Brooklyn.
The appointment was made by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio and will become effective Aug. 4.
Msgr. Marino asked the Bishop to relinquish his duties as director of the agency in February, after 17 years in the post and 27 years in direct migration work. The Bishop accepted the request, effective June 30.
Msgr. Marino will continue to carry out the duties of diocesan Vicar for Migrant and Ethnic Apostolate and in that capacity will be Mr. Dominguez’s immediate supervisor.
The new director, a graduate of Seton Hall University, comes to the Diocese after serving four years as the executive director of Real Life Community Services, Inc., in Englewood, N.J., where he planned, developed and implemented a program of social, economic and educational services. He also served agencies in Hackensack and Newark during more than 26 years in non-profit management positions.
Msgr. Marino said that though Mr. Dominguez does not have a direct immigration background---“neither did I when I began”---he is “the right choice,” adding that “he is someone whom I can trust to be the right person for the job.”
