2010 Annual Catholic Appeal
As we approach the Lenten season, Catholics everywhere become increasingly focused on religious devotions. During this season of grace, prayer and fasting are two traditional ways in which we reaffirm our Christian purpose. Sharing what we have with our brothers and sisters is also fundamental to our lives as Catholics. I am pleased, therefore, to announce the beginning of our 2010 Annual Catholic Appeal and invite you to share some of your God given gifts with those in need here in Brooklyn and Queens.
This year’s Appeal theme “God’s Love Shines Through Us ... We Are A Priestly People,” celebrates the year of the Priest and is a call for each of us to fulfill our own priestly ministry. The Appeal allows us to continue important ministries and programs that express our core values. The effort also allows the diocesan Church to provide a dimension of ministry that transcends your home parish.
This year, your generous gesture will be used to support Catholic Education, Catholic Migration Services, Catholic Charities, Vocation Support, Chaplaincies and Faith Formation and Pastoral Life. Your gift, added to the thousands of others from like-minded people, makes it possible for the good works of the Church to be continued and carried forward.
As you reflect upon God’s goodness to you, it is my hope that you will prayerfully consider a gift to the Appeal this year. Only God knows the sacrifice it will require on your part. All I humbly ask is that you let sacrifice be your guide and to do the best that you can. Whatever the amount of your gift, it is deeply appreciated. You may be assured that your gift helps to bring strength, truth, love and Christ Himself to others.
Kindly use the pledge/gift card and reply envelope you received by mail or go to www.rcdobdonate.org to make your commitment to this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal. I encourage you to consider a ten-month pledge, although one-time gifts are, of course, accepted. Please know that you and your family will be remembered in my prayers of thanksgiving.
Asking that you participate generously and also pray for the success of this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal, I am.
Sincerely in Christ,

Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Ph.D., D.D.
Bishop of Brooklyn
